Nalco posts record FY26 performance with 77 lakh tonnes bauxite evacuation
Bhubaneswar: National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), the flagship Navratna CPSE under the Union ministry of mines and leading manufacturer and exporter of alumina and aluminium, has delivered an extraordinary performance in FY 2025–26, breaking all previous records in both production and sales since its inception over four decades ago.

Marking a historic milestone, NALCO achieved its highest-ever production across multiple operational fronts, reinforcing its leadership as an integrated player in the alumina and aluminium sector. The company recorded bauxite excavation of 77.01 lakh tonnes and bauxite transportation of 77.07 lakh tonnes, while alumina hydrate production reached 23.00 lakh tonnes and calcined alumina production stood at 22.75 lakh tonnes. Cast metal production was recorded at 4.72 lakh tonnes, alongside a highest-ever net power generation of 6,953 MU and coal production of 40 lakh tonnes.

Coal Ministry surpasses 200 MT milestone in coal production and dispatches for FY 2025-26
New Delhi: The Ministry of Coal on Thursday said it crossed a whopping 200 million tonnes (MT) in coal production and dispatches from the commercial and captive mining activity in the financial year 2025-26. The ministry termed it a 'watershed moment' for India's coal sector.
India’s Coal Reliance Shields power supply amid energy crisis
India’s grid remains largely coal-dependent. As per 2023 electricity production data, coal-fired power accounts for 74.4 per cent, followed by natural gas (3.0 per cent), hydropower (7.2 per cent), solar PV (6.0 per cent), wind (4.7 per cent), nuclear (2.4 per cent) and oil (0.2 per cent). “Coal’s share in total electricity generation has increased from 67 per cent in 2010 to around 75 per cent in 2023. The share of natural gas has dropped from around 11 per cent in 2010 to just 3 per cent, reflecting both price volatility and domestic supply constraints. Solar and wind generation now contribute around 11 per cent of the total, up from around 2 per cent in 2010 — a notable achievement,” the report said.
Coal production from captive, commercial mines up 10.2% in FY 2025-26
Coal production from captive and commercial mines increased 10.2% in the financial year 2025-26 to 210.46 million tonnes, on a year-over-year basis, the government informed in a statement Thursday.

Iran war has fuelled 15-20% spike in solar module prices: SAEL CEO
Solar module prices have increased as a result of supply chain disruption caused by the Iran war.
